The Iron Age Farm
Welcome to The Iron Age Farm at Ullandhaug. Imagine going 1,500 years back in time to experience how life was in The Iron Age. To when the fire burned in the fireplace, children were running around in the houses and the adults would do things like hunting or grinding grain to make sure there was food on the table. Would you like to try?
The Iron Age Farm (Jernaldergården) at Ullandhaug is rebuilt on the original remains and ruins of a farm that dates back to the Migration Period, approx. 350 – 550 AD, and is the only one of its kind in Norway. The farm is a live open-air museum, where you can experience how everyday life was before the Viking Age.
Enter the long houses with the Lady of the farm or the tribal chief and get a glimpse into prehistoric Rogaland. Experience how people lived, what they ate and how they sustained life.
There’s also a visitor’s center with an exhibition of objects found at the farm, and where you can learn some more about life in the Iron Age.
The visitor centre also has a café where you can sit down and enjoy a warm soup or some home baked goods, as well as coffee, tea, and cold drinks. The center also has a great museum shop with unique souvenirs, gifts, toys, and books.
